Why Focus Time Is So Important?

Learn and understand why I value quality focus time for myself and how I manage to have it every day during my working hours to achive productive work.

What exactly is focus time?

Focus time is the time you allow yourself to focus solely on one task. You could see it as a fixed timeframe like one or two hours where you try to go into a flow state of productivity by reducing all outside distractions and focusing on a specific task.

Easy steps to enable focus time

  • Make sure you mute all notifications.

    • If you are in a position that needs to be available even during focus time, make sure you have one channel of communication open for important messages.
  • Choose the right time for you.

    • Personally I choose the early mornings to have at least one to two hours of uninterrupted time where I can focus purely on being as productive as I can. I prefer the mornings because most of the time, the rest of my team is still asleep, not working or just settling in. But for other people it might be directly after lunch or the hour before stopping work.
  • Make it a habit.

    • Having a fixed timeslot in your calendar helps you make it a habit.
  • Communicate your focus time.

    • It is important that the people you work with are on board on your endevour. Tell your co-workers that you plan on doing a productive session every day.
